It is essential to ensure quality sputum microscopy to prevent false results (False Positivity or False Negativity). This is achieved by continuously monitoring quality and taking necessary steps for quality improvement. <\/p>\n\n

Quality Improvement (QI)<\/strong><\/span> is a process by which corrective actions are undertaken (including retraining), to identify causes and prevent their recurrence, in all components of smear microscopy services. This is achieved in NTEP through Quality Assurance implemented by a multi-level quality assurance network system consisting of the following two activities: <\/p>\n\n

Internal Quality Control<\/span> <\/strong>is a process of effective and systematic internal monitoring of the working practices. It includes technical procedures such as checking instruments, quality of new batches of staining solution, smear preparation, grading, equipment infection control measures, waste management.<\/li>\n\t
External Quality Assessment (EQA)<\/span> <\/strong>is <\/strong>a process to assess the quality of testing by peripheral laboratories by a more competent laboratory, like the intermediate or the national reference laboratory. It includes activities such as Onsite evaluation, Panel Testing and Random Blinded Re-Checking (RBRC).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n
