2. Rapid diagnostic molecular test:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
The Rapid diagnostic molecular tests which are in use under the programme are:<\/p>\n\n
\n\t
Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CBNAAT\/Truenat)<\/strong><\/span>: Used for molecular diagnosis of TB as well as detection of resistance towards Rifampicin. Rapid molecular test like NAAT are more sensitive and specific for diagnosing TB, compared to microscopy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
Under the programme, this technology is recommended to use for diagnosis of TB among children, PLHIV, other key populations and also in case of Extra-pulmonary TB, smear negative TB and in all cases of presumptive DR-TB.<\/p>\n\n

3. Culture and DST: <\/strong> The culture test involves studying bacteria by growing the bacteria on different media supporting growth. This is to find out if particular microorganisms are present. In the case of the TB culture test, the test is to see if Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent for TB is present. There are two types of culture used to grow mycobacteria:<\/p>\n\n
1) Solid Culture: Lowenstein Jensen media<\/p>\n\n
2) Liquid Culture: Automated Liquid culture systems e.g. Liquid media (Middlebrook)\u2014 Bactec MGIT 960 , BactT Alert or versatrek etc.<\/p>\n\n
Drug Sensitivity Testing: <\/strong>Once bacteria are grown on culture, their susceptibility to various drugs are evaluated by trying to grow them in the presence of of the drug. eg.
