Targets of End TB Strategy
Learning ObjectivesUnderstand the specific targets outlined in the End TB Strategy aimed at reducing the global burden of tuberculosis (TB).
The End TB (tuberculosis) Strategy targets for 2035 are:
- 95% reduction in tuberculosis deaths (compared with 2015)
- 90% reduction in tuberculosis incidence rate (less than 10 tuberculosis cases per 100 000 population)
- No affected families facing catastrophic costs due to tuberculosis.
To reach the targets set out in the End TB Strategy, the annual decline in global TB incidence rates must first accelerate from 2% per year in 2015 to 10% per year by 2025. Secondly, the proportion of people with TB who die from the disease (the case-fatality ratio) needs to decline from a projected 15% in 2015 to 6.5% by 2025.
The figure below shows the global priority indicators and targets for monitoring the implementation of the End TB Strategy. All countries should aim to reach these targets at the latest by 2025.
