    Learning Objectives

    Participants will understand the importance and proper use of the Vaccine Vial Monitor (VVM) for aBCG vaccines. They will learn how to:

    1. Interpret the VVM status to ensure vaccine potency and safety.
    2. Check the VVM before use to confirm that the vaccine has not been exposed to damaging temperatures.
    3. Identify and appropriately manage vials with compromised VVM status.

VVM to register cumulative heat exposure between the time period of exit from the manufacturing site till the time of use.

The combined effects of time and temperature causes the inner square of the VVM to darken gradually and irreversibly.

How to Monitor VVM?

For BCG vaccine, the VMM only indicates the exposure of the dry vaccine before reconstitution. Before opening a vial, check the status of the VVM.
