Under the National Program for Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination, the screening for active TB is an important activity with the following aims and objectives:

  • Screening can also help identify people who are at particularly high risk of developing active disease in the future and thus may require repeat screening, e.g., people with an abnormal chest radiograph that is compatible with TB but who were not diagnosed with active disease at the time of screening.
  • Combining screening for TB with screening for TB risk factors can also help map individual or community-level risk factors and socio-economic determinants that need to be addressed to more effectively prevent TB.
