BACTEC MGIT 960 Reagents and Storage

MGIT 960 reagents include (Figure):

1. MGIT medium; each MGIT 960 tube contains 7.0 ml of modified 7H9 broth base while the manual MGIT tube contains 4.0 ml of the medium
2. MGIT growth supplement (enrichment); growth supplement for BACTEC MGIT 960
3. MGIT PANTA, antimicrobial supplement to prevent contamination

Storage of Reagents

MGIT 960 tube

• Stored at 2–25 °C
• Do not freeze
• Minimize exposure to light
• Broth should be clear and colourless; Do not use if turbid
• MGIT tubes may be inoculated up to the expiration date and incubated for up to eight weeks

MGIT Growth Supplement 

• Stored in the dark at 2–8 °C
• Avoid freezing or overheating
• Do not open until ready to use
• Minimize exposure to light

MGIT PANTA Antibiotic Mixture

• Stored as lyophilized vials at 2–8 °C
• Once reconstituted, the PANTA mixture must be stored at 2–8 °C and used within 5 days.
